Chapter 1

THE STRUGGLE

Where it all began

Plus Two Science കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ എനിക്ക് ഒരു ക്ലിയർ പ്ലാൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. Engineering-ന് പോകാൻ rank കിട്ടിയില്ല. KEAM score ശരിയായില്ല. അച്ഛൻ auto driver ആണ്. അമ്മ അടുത്തുള്ള വീടുകളിൽ house maid ആയി ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്നു. Engineering college-ന്റെ ഫീസ് ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് താങ്ങാൻ കഴിയുമായിരുന്നില്ല. അങ്ങനെ Plus Two pass ആയിട്ട് മൂന്ന് വർഷം ഒരു plan ഇല്ലാതെ Thrissur-ൽ നടന്നു.

ആ മൂന്ന് വർഷം ഞാൻ എന്തെല്ലാം ചെയ്തു എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചാൽ -- ഒരു mobile shop-ൽ ഒരു വർഷം. ഒരു electrician-ന്റെ helper ആയി ആറ് മാസം. ഒരു super market-ൽ billing counter-ൽ ഇരുന്നു. എല്ലാം temporary jobs. ഒന്നിലും future ഇല്ല. രാത്രി ഉറങ്ങാൻ കിടക്കുമ്പോൾ ceiling-ൽ നോക്കി ചിന്തിക്കും -- എന്റെ life-ൽ ഇനി എന്ത്?

Chapter 2

THE DISCOVERY

A light in the dark

ഒരു ദിവസം, എന്റെ friend Anil -- അവൻ Diploma Electrical കഴിഞ്ഞതാണ് -- EDWartens-നെ കുറിച്ച് പറഞ്ഞു. "Automation Engineering-ൽ course ഉണ്ട്. Plus Two qualification മതി. PLC, SCADA, Robotics എല്ലാം പഠിപ്പിക്കും. International certification ഉണ്ട്. Placement guarantee ഉണ്ട്." ഞാൻ ആദ്യം വിശ്വസിച്ചില്ല. Plus Two കഴിഞ്ഞ ഒരാൾക്ക് Automation Engineer ആകാൻ കഴിയുമോ?

Chapter 3

THE TRANSFORMATION

Becoming an engineer

EDWartens-ൽ call ചെയ്തു. Assessment test attend ചെയ്തു. Pass ആയി. അച്ഛൻ auto-യുടെ loan-ൽ നിന്ന് ബാക്കി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന amount-ൽ നിന്ന് ഒരു ഭാഗം course fee-ക്ക് കൊടുത്തു. ബാക്കി EMI ആയി arrange ചെയ്തു.

AEP join ചെയ്ത ആദ്യ ദിവസം ഞാൻ വളരെ nervous ആയിരുന്നു. Engineering background ഇല്ലാത്ത ഞാൻ PLC programming എങ്ങനെ പഠിക്കും? പക്ഷേ EDWartens trainers-ന്റെ approach വ്യത്യസ്തമായിരുന്നു. അവർ basics-ൽ നിന്ന് start ചെയ്തു. Electrical fundamentals, circuit theory, sensor basics -- എല്ലാം step by step. VR training ആയിരുന്നു game changer. ഒരു virtual factory-യിൽ PLC panel wire ചെയ്യുന്നത്, motor control circuit build ചെയ്യുന്നത്, SCADA screen design ചെയ്യുന്നത് -- ഇതെല്ലാം VR-ൽ practice ചെയ്യാം. Real equipment break ചെയ്യുന്നതിനെ കുറിച്ച് worry ഇല്ല.

Chapter 4

THE TRIUMPH

Victory at last

Wartens UK CPD certification, 14 PLC brands training, hands-on industrial projects -- ഇതെല്ലാം combined ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ഒരു completely different person ആയി transform ചെയ്തു. Bosch India interview-ന് call വന്നപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ confident ആയിരുന്നു. PLC programming, SCADA configuration, industrial networking -- എല്ലാ questions-നും answer ചെയ്തു.

Offer letter-ൽ Rs 9 LPA എന്ന് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ -- Plus Two മാത്രം qualification ഉള്ള ഞാൻ, auto driver-ന്റെ മകൻ -- ഒരു നിമിഷം ഞാൻ believe ചെയ്തില്ല. അന്ന് രാത്രി അച്ഛൻ auto park ചെയ്തിട്ട് വന്നപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ offer letter കാണിച്ചു. അച്ഛൻ ഒന്നും പറഞ്ഞില്ല. എന്നെ കെട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ചു. ആ embrace-ൽ 25 വർഷത്തെ കഷ്ടപ്പാടിന്റെ relief ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
