Factory I/O Simulation for PLC Training

Factory I/O is a 3D factory simulation software designed specifically for PLC training. It creates realistic virtual factory environments with conveyors, sorting stations, pick-and-place units, elevators, tank systems and production lines that can be controlled by a real or simulated PLC.

The power of Factory I/O lies in its ability to connect to real PLCs via standard communication protocols. Students programme their PLCs using the same software they would use in a real factory (TIA Portal, Studio 5000, etc.) and see the results in the 3D simulation in real-time. This creates an incredibly engaging learning experience where abstract PLC code produces visible, tangible results.

At EDWartens, Factory I/O complements our VR-based training and physical PLC labs. Each technology serves a different purpose: VR provides immersive spatial experience, Factory I/O provides realistic process simulation connected to real PLCs, and physical labs provide hands-on wiring and hardware experience.

The Factory I/O scenarios progress from basic (single conveyor control) to advanced (entire production line coordination). Students must programme PLC logic for motor control, sensor monitoring, sequencing, fault detection, HMI interfaces and even multi-PLC coordination. This progressive complexity builds competence systematically and mirrors the challenges of real industrial projects.
