PID Tuning Calculator
Starting gains from Ziegler-Nichols, from the ultimate gain or a step test.

| Controller | Kp | Ti (s) | Td (s) | Ki = Kp/Ti | Kd = Kp·Td |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| P | 2 | - | - | - | - |
| PI | 1.8 | 16.67 | - | 0.108 | - |
| PID | 2.4 | 10 | 2.5 | 0.24 | 6 |
Ziegler-Nichols gains are deliberately aggressive. Start at about half of Kp, test in simulation or with the process in a safe state, and tune from there. Check whether your controller takes Ti and Td (standard form) or Ki and Kd (parallel form), and its time units.
How to use it
- 1Choose how you measured the loop: an ultimate-gain test or a step test.
- 2Enter the measured values in seconds.
- 3Start at about half the suggested Kp.
- 4Tune in simulation or with the process in a safe state.
