Siemens TIA Portal

From zero electrical knowledge to a working, simulated S7-1200 program, for nothing.

  • Read a ladder rung and predict what the PLC will do with it
  • Wire sinking and sourcing sensors to an S7-1200 without guessing
  • Build timers, counters and comparators into working interlocks

Siemens S7-300 with STEP 7

The classic Siemens PLC, from an empty SIMATIC Manager project to a commissioned, diagnosed, running machine.

  • Build an S7-300 rack in HW Config and read the addresses it assigns
  • Write ladder with contacts, coils, Set/Reset, edges and flip-flops that behave safely
  • Use S7 and IEC timers and counters, and know which one a problem needs

Siemens S7-1500 Advanced Programming in TIA Portal

Beyond the basics: block design, optimized DBs, UDTs, S7-GRAPH, SCL, drives, libraries, software units, multiuser, testing tools and worked projects on the S7-1500.

  • Simulate on PLCSIM and use clock memory and time functions
  • Choose FC, FB, DB and instance types deliberately, with libraries and versioning
  • Use optimized block access and know when standard access is still needed

HMI Design and Programming: Siemens WinCC and FactoryTalk View ME

What an HMI is and how to design one well, then two mainstream tools end to end: Siemens WinCC in TIA Portal and Rockwell FactoryTalk View Machine Edition on PanelView Plus, with WinCC flexible for the legacy base.

  • Design a high-performance HMI: grey ground, colour for abnormal, screen hierarchy
  • Build a WinCC TIA project with templates, connection, tags, screens, animation, text lists, pop-ups
  • Configure alarms, trends, recipes, users, scripts, libraries and languages in WinCC

Why learn Siemens systems in India

Siemens is the most common PLC brand in Indian process and infrastructure plants, and TIA Portal skills are the single most requested item on automation job posts. The S7-300 keeps running in plants built before 2018, so both the classic and the current toolchain are worth knowing.

Questions

Which free Siemens PLC course should I start with?
Siemens TIA Portal. It assumes nothing and runs fully in PLCSIM. Follow it with S7-1500 Advanced, and take S7-300 with STEP 7 if you maintain older plants.
Is Siemens PLCSIM free?
PLCSIM comes with the TIA Portal trial, which is free for 21 days and can be reinstalled. Every simulation exercise in the courses works in it.
Is the certificate a Siemens certificate?
The EDWartens Certificate of Completion is optional, paid, verifiable by code and issued after the final assessment. It is not a vendor credential.
