Project
The course project
Optional practice that ends in the kind of job the course prepares you for, with the documents that go with it.
About 12 hours
Designing and verifying a workshop extension to BS 7671: load list, cable schedule, design checks and schedule of test results
Take a small industrial extension from the client's equipment list to a verified installation: build the load list and demand, size a sub-main and six final circuits with their correction factors, prove voltage drop, Zs and the protective conductors, decide RCDs, SPDs and the EV charger's earthing, and complete the schedule of test results with every reading compared against its limit. The sample pack shows each document for a fictional fabrication workshop in England.
Sample document pack, 4 documents, filled in for the scenario
- Load listLoad list and demand: workshop extension
- Cable scheduleCable schedule with sizing checks
- ReportDesign report: sub-main, protective measures and certification
- Test reportInitial verification: inspection summary and schedule of test results
Read inside the course and download as a workbook. The project is optional practice, marked when you submit it; the certificate needs only the modules and the final assessment.
Tools
Software, hardware and lessons
Software
A spreadsheet (LibreOffice Calc is free) for the Zs, cable sizing and voltage drop sheets you build in the modules. A copy of BS 7671 or IEC 60364 is not needed to learn: the notes paraphrase the rules and give the formulas, but real design and certification work must use the edition your project or authority names.
Hardware
None. Test instruments are shown in the videos; you do not need one.
Who it is for
Intermediate. For electricians, electrical supervisors, MEP and electrical design engineers, inspectors and final-year electrical students. You should know Ohm's law, single and three-phase power and what a circuit breaker does; Electrical Design Engineering is a good course to take first.

FAQ
Common questions
What is this wiring regulations course?
It is a free-to-learn online course on IEC 60364 and BS 7671, the wiring regulations for low-voltage installations used in the UK, the Gulf and many other countries. It covers the structure of the standard, earthing arrangements, automatic disconnection and Zs, RCDs, cable sizing, voltage drop, special locations, inspection and testing, and certificates, with BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 as the worked example.
Who is the BS 7671 and IEC 60364 course for?
It is for electricians, electrical supervisors, MEP and electrical design engineers, inspectors and final-year electrical students who design, install, check or certify low-voltage installations. You should know Ohm's law, single and three-phase power and what a circuit breaker does.
Is the course free to learn?
Yes. Every module, the notes, worked problems, practice tasks, the project and the final assessment are free to learn, and the only software you need is a free spreadsheet. The certificate is optional.
Does the course cover BS 7671 Amendment 4?
Yes. It is written to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, published on 15 April 2026, including the new chapter on stationary batteries, the Power over Ethernet section, PNB earthing, the AFDD wording and the change to condition report outcomes. The previous text is withdrawn on 15 October 2026.
Is this the City and Guilds 2382 18th Edition qualification?
No. It covers the knowledge behind the 18th Edition and IEC 60364 and is useful preparation, but it is not a City and Guilds, IET, NICEIC or utility qualification or licence. Local regulations and a competent person govern real installation and certification work.
Is it useful for electrical jobs in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar?
Yes. Gulf wiring rules, such as the DEWA regulations in Dubai and the rules in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Qatar, grew from BS 7671 and IEC 60364 practice, and one module covers how they differ, cable derating for high ambient temperatures and a sub-main designed for a 45 °C plant room. Always check the current edition of the local authority's rules.
How long does the Wiring Regulations in Practice: IEC 60364 and BS 7671 course take?
About 25 hours at your own pace, including about 15 hours of video by named creators, plus the notes, worked problems and practice tasks. The optional workshop design and verification project takes about 12 hours more.
What certificate do I get, and how is it verified?
You get a verifiable certificate of completion from EDWartens when you finish the modules and pass the 15-question final at 60 percent. It carries a unique certificate number and a QR code that open a public verification page showing the course, the modules covered and your final score.
Is the Wiring Regulations in Practice: IEC 60364 and BS 7671 course free in India, and what does the certificate cost?
Yes. Learning costs ₹0 in India: every module, the written notes, the practice tasks and the final assessment, with no card and no trial period. The only paid item is the optional EDWartens Certificate of Completion, ₹599 including GST for this intermediate course, paid in rupees through Razorpay, and only if you want it after passing the final assessment.
