Housing scrap at a moulding plant: ranking, charter, chi-square, 2 cubed experiment and control plan
Run a Black Belt project on scrap at a plastic housing line. Rank the candidate projects, write the charter with a benefit in cost units, test whether defects depend on shift, analyse a replicated three-factor experiment and finish with a control plan and chart limits. You deliver a charter, a test record, an effects table, chart limits and a control plan.

Tools
Software, hardware and lessons
Software
A spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel or the free LibreOffice Calc) is enough for every worked problem in the notes. JASP (free, open source) or R give the full ANOVA, regression and designed-experiment outputs. Minitab is shown in a few lessons and is optional: Minitab offers a free trial on its own website (checked 1 November 2026), so read its current terms there.
Hardware
None. A computer that runs a spreadsheet.
Who it is for
Advanced. Assumes the Green Belt toolkit (DMAIC, process maps, basic charts, Gage R&R and capability), school algebra and a first look at statistics. Take Six Sigma Green Belt Training for Manufacturing first if these are new to you.

FAQ
Common questions
What is the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course?
It is a free-to-learn course that takes the Green Belt toolkit further: project selection and charters, hypothesis testing with power, ANOVA, regression, designed experiments, Lean flow and pull, control plans, change leadership and a full DMAIC case. Lessons are curated YouTube videos with EDWartens notes, worked problems, practice and an optional project.
Who is this Black Belt course for?
Quality, process and manufacturing engineers, Green Belts moving up and improvement leads. You should know the Green Belt basics: DMAIC, process maps, basic charts, Gage R&R and capability. Take Six Sigma Green Belt Training for Manufacturing first if they are new.
Will this make me a certified Black Belt?
No. The course covers the Black Belt body of knowledge and prepares you for Black Belt exams of the ASQ CSSBB or IASSC type, but it is not a Black Belt certification and not an ASQ or IASSC credential. Check each body's current exam page for its rules, because those exams may ask for project experience.
Do I need Minitab?
No. Every worked problem in the notes runs in a spreadsheet such as Excel or the free LibreOffice Calc, and JASP or R give the fuller outputs for free. Minitab appears in a few videos and is optional. It offers a free trial on its own website, so read its current terms there.
What statistics do I need to start?
School algebra and the Green Belt statistics: means, standard deviations, a basic hypothesis test and a control chart. The course rebuilds each Black Belt idea from data printed in the notes, so you can repeat every number yourself.
How long does the course take, and is it free?
About 14.7 hours of video and around 18 hours in total with the notes, worked problems and practice tasks, at your own pace. Every module, the notes, the optional project and the final assessment are free to learn.
What certificate does the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course give?
A verifiable certificate of completion, issued when you finish the modules and pass the 15-question final at 60 percent. It has a unique certificate number, a QR code and a public verification page that shows the course, the modules covered and your final score.
Is Black Belt knowledge useful in quality jobs?
Employers in manufacturing, logistics and services list Black Belt skills for process improvement, quality and operational excellence roles. The course supports that knowledge with worked statistics and a project, but it does not promise a job or a result.
Is the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course free in India, and what does the certificate cost?
Yes. Learning costs ₹0 in India: every module, the written notes, the practice tasks and the final assessment, with no card and no trial period. The only paid item is the optional EDWartens Certificate of Completion, ₹999 including GST for this advanced course, paid in rupees through Razorpay, and only if you want it after passing the final assessment.
