How does the AI tutor in my lessons work?
The short answer
On a paid programme each lesson has a Tutor tab: an AI that answers from that module's own notes. It never answers test questions and pauses while a test is open. Ask an engineer is there when you want a person.
The AI tutor at a glance
Your notes
It answers from the open module
20 an hour, 80 a day
Questions you can ask
Paused in tests
No help while a test is open
Open a lesson of your programme and choose Tutor. Pick a starter question, or type your own in the box that says Type your question, in your own words, and choose Send. The tutor answers from the notes of the module you have open. It is an AI, not a person, and it can make mistakes: check important points against your notes.
Ask the tutor
A lesson in your programme
- Click Tutor
- Click Type your question
- Click Send
The answer appears in the same tab
What it does
- Explains a point from the module's notes in short sentences and plain words, with a small example from a plant if that helps.
- Works through practice problems and lab tasks step by step. It gives a hint or the first step, asks you to reply with what you get, and shows the full working once you have tried or ask for it.
- Writes you a new practice question from the notes if you ask for one, and waits for your answer.
- Replies in the language you write in, with technical terms kept in English.
- Says so first if your question is outside the module's notes. It may then add a short general answer if it is sure, and tells you that it is general knowledge.
What it will not do
- Answer a test. It never answers a quiz, weekly test, gate, final or mock exam question, and never says which option is right. It explains the idea behind it instead.
- Work during a test. It pauses while any test is open: a module quiz, weekly test, gate, final, practical exam or mock exam. Submit the test, then ask again.
- Tell you fees or rules. It does not give fees, refunds, batch dates, attendance rules, access periods, pass marks, certificate rules, placement or salaries. Those come from this Help Centre or your counsellor.
- Ask for secrets. It never asks for your passwords, card details or one-time codes.
Limits
You can send up to 20 questions in any hour and 80 in any 24 hours, and each question can be up to 1,500 characters. If you reach a limit, the tutor says how long to wait. A reply refused because a test is open does not use up your allowance.
When you need a person
If you are still stuck after two tries, or you want someone to look at your own work, use the Ask an engineer tab in the same lesson: see Can I ask a question about a lesson?. The tutor will point you there too.
The tutor is part of the paid programmes. If a lesson has no Tutor tab, that course does not have it, and there is no Tutor tab on the page of a final test. When your access to a programme ends, the tutor closes with the lessons.
