Are Free PLC Course Certificates Worth Anything in India?
The question employers actually ask
No hiring manager in an Indian automation company has ever asked "is this certificate from Siemens?" They ask two things: can this person show me a program they wrote, and is anything on this CV made up. A certificate helps with the second question and only points at the first.
Verifiable beats prestigious
A certificate with a public verification page, where the employer types the number and sees the name, the course and the date, is worth more than a famous logo on a PDF nobody can check. The EDWartens Certificate of Completion has a verification page for exactly this reason, and every course page says plainly that it is an EDWartens certificate, not a vendor credential.
What the certificate says you did
Read the certificate's own text. "Covering: hardware configuration, ladder logic, timers, counters, analog scaling, WinCC HMI, simulation" tells an interviewer what to ask you about. Then the interview is on ground you have prepared, which is the whole value.
What it does not do
A certificate does not replace the program. Bring the project: the sorting station you built in Factory I/O, the HMI screen, the level loop. The free courses are built so that every module leaves you with something you made; the certificate is the receipt for that work, not a substitute for it.
Free versus paid certificates
The free courses cost nothing to learn; the certificate is optional and paid, ₹700 including GST, because issuing, verifying and hosting it costs money and because a paid certificate is one somebody chose to earn. The paid Automation Engineer Program issues an experience certificate from Wartens UK after real project work; that is a different document for a different stage.
Making it do work
- Put the course under Certifications on your CV with its number. The free account's CV builder adds finished courses on its own.
- Put the project under Projects, with the platform named.
- In the cover letter, use one line of evidence from the course.
- Expect to be asked about the covering topics, and be able to open the project on a laptop.
Frequently asked questions
Is it recognised by AICTE or NCVET? No, and it does not claim to be. It is a private certificate of completion, verifiable by code.
Does it help with a job abroad? As evidence of self-directed learning, yes; as a licence, nothing is.
Should I list a course I did not finish? Only as "in progress" with the module count, which the CV builder does automatically.
