PLC Training in Bangalore vs Chennai vs Pune: Where Should You Actually Study?
The thing that actually decides it
Not the institute's brochure. Where you want to work afterwards.
Automation hiring is local and relationship-driven, especially for freshers. Institutes place into the plants near them, because that is who they know. If you train in Pune and want to work in Chennai, you get the training but not the placement network, and the network is half of what you paid for.
So: pick the city you intend to work in, then pick the institute.
What each city's industry is
Bangalore. The most diverse of the three. Automotive at Bidadi, pharma and electronics in the south belt, machine building at Peenya, and the largest concentration of MNC engineering centres in India at Whitefield and the east. Also the strongest overlap between automation and software, which matters if you want to move towards IIoT, MES or automation product work later.
Chennai. Automotive above all, plus heavy engineering, and a very strong manufacturing culture along the Sriperumbudur and Oragadam corridors. If you want vehicle and component manufacturing, this is arguably the densest market in the country.
Pune. Automotive and engineering, with Chakan, Ranjangaon and Talegaon as the main belts. Traditionally very strong in machine building and Tier-1 supply, and home to a large population of automation system integrators.
All three have real, sustained demand. None of them is a bad answer.

Fresher salaries do not differ dramatically between these cities for the same role. Cost of living does, and Bangalore is the most expensive place to be a student of the three.
The questions that matter more than the city
1. Where does this specific institute place people?
Ask for the last twenty placements with company names and locations. If they are all within 40 km, that is your realistic radius.
2. Do they have real hardware, and how much of it?
This does not vary by city. It varies by institute, enormously. See the institute checklist.
3. Is there real project work?
The single biggest differentiator between courses, in any city.
4. Can you afford to live there for five or six months?
A cheaper course in an expensive city can cost more in total than an expensive course in a cheaper one. Work out the whole number.
If you are moving cities to study
Some practical points people underestimate:
- Budget the full period, not the course fee. Rent, food, transport, for the whole duration plus a month or two of job hunting afterwards. Job hunting takes longer than people plan for.
- Ask about accommodation help. Many institutes have arrangements or at least know the area.
- Check the placement radius before you commit. If you are moving to Bangalore from Kerala intending to return to Kerala, ask directly whether the institute has ever placed anyone there. The honest answer is usually no, and it is much better to know that now.
The case for Bangalore specifically
Being straightforward about our own bias: we are in Bangalore, so treat this section accordingly and check it yourself.
The genuine arguments for Bangalore are diversity and optionality. It is the only one of the three where you can plausibly move between plant-floor automation, MNC application engineering, and automation-adjacent software over a career without relocating. If you do not yet know which of those you want, that optionality has value.
The genuine argument against is cost. It is the most expensive of the three to live in while you have no income.
The case against choosing on city at all
For most people the institute matters more than the city. A strong programme with real hardware and real projects in Pune will serve you better than a weak one with a nice brochure in Bangalore. Apply the checklist to every institute you are considering, in every city, and let the answers decide.
