Robotics Engineer Salary in India Per Month (2026)

The short answer
A robotics engineer in India earns an average of about ₹5.5 lakh a year, which is roughly ₹45,900 a month gross, according to AmbitionBox (read 11 October 2026, based on 2.3k salaries). By experience, the averages are ₹5 lakh a year (about ₹41,700 a month) at 1 to 3 years, ₹5.5 lakh (about ₹45,800 a month) at 3 to 6 years and ₹8.3 lakh (about ₹69,200 a month) at 6 to 9 years. Hyderabad and Bengaluru pay above the national figure. All monthly figures here are gross, before PF, professional tax and income tax.
Robotics engineer salary in India per month, by experience
The numbers below come from the AmbitionBox Robotics Engineer salary page, read 11 October 2026 (the page said it was last updated 9 October 2026). AmbitionBox shows a typical range for each experience band and gives the average in its FAQ. We divided the yearly figures by 12 to get monthly gross pay.
Experience | Salaries reported | Typical range per year | Average per year | Average per month (gross) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
1 to 3 years | 997 | ₹4.7 to 5.2 lakh | ₹5 lakh | about ₹41,700 |
3 to 6 years | 1.1k | ₹5.2 to 5.8 lakh | ₹5.5 lakh | about ₹45,800 |
6 to 9 years | 224 | ₹7.9 to 8.8 lakh | ₹8.3 lakh | about ₹69,200 |
All (1 to 7 years) | 2.3k | ₹5.2 to 5.8 lakh | ₹5.5 lakh | ₹45,900 (AmbitionBox's figure) |
Two things stand out. First, pay barely moves between the first and second bands; the real step comes in the 6 to 9 year band, where the average jumps by ₹2.8 lakh a year. Second, the spread at the top is wide: AmbitionBox says the top 10% earn more than ₹8.3 lakh a year (about ₹69,200 a month) and the top 1% more than ₹20.6 lakh (about ₹1.72 lakh a month).

What is the starting salary of a robotics engineer in India per month?
AmbitionBox's Robotics Engineer page has no band for less than one year of experience, so there is no sourced "day one" number for that exact title. The closest band, 1 to 3 years, is ₹4.7 to 5.2 lakh a year, or about ₹39,200 to ₹43,300 a month gross.
A first job in robotics often carries another title, so the neighbouring pages are worth reading too (AmbitionBox, read 11 October 2026):
- Robot Programmer (452 salaries): 1 to 3 years ₹3.1 to 3.5 lakh a year, average ₹3.3 lakh, about ₹27,500 a month.
- PLC Programmer (2.5k salaries): the only related page with a 0 to 1 year band, ₹2.6 to 2.9 lakh from 186 salaries, average ₹2.7 lakh, about ₹22,500 a month.
So treat ₹40,000 a month as what the robotics engineer title pays after a year or two, not as a guaranteed first offer.
Robotics engineer salary in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai
City figures on the same AmbitionBox page, read 11 October 2026:
City | Salaries reported | Typical range per year | Average per year | Per month (gross) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Hyderabad | 92 | ₹6.6 to 8.3 lakh | ₹7.4 lakh | about ₹61,700 |
Bengaluru | 309 | ₹6.3 to 7.2 lakh | ₹6.8 lakh | about ₹56,700 |
Chennai | 229 | ₹5.1 to 6.1 lakh | ₹5.6 lakh | about ₹46,700 |
Gurugram | 145 | ₹5 to 5.8 lakh | not shown | about ₹41,700 to 48,300 |
Pune | 567 | ₹4.4 to 4.9 lakh | not shown | about ₹36,700 to 40,800 |
AmbitionBox also lists Coimbatore and New Delhi at ₹6 lakh a year (about ₹50,000 a month) without showing their sample sizes. Pune has the most reports of any city but the lowest band of the five. Bengaluru sits about ₹1.3 lakh a year above the national average, which matters if you are choosing where to apply.
Which industries pay robotics engineers more?
Industry | Salaries reported | Typical range per year | Average per year |
|---|---|---|---|
Auto components | 323 | ₹3.9 to 4.4 lakh | not shown |
Industrial machinery | 226 | ₹4.5 to 5 lakh | ₹4.8 lakh |
Industrial automation | 221 | ₹5.5 to 6.1 lakh | ₹5.8 lakh |
IT services and consulting | 123 | ₹6.3 to 7.9 lakh | ₹7.1 lakh |
Management consulting | 170 | ₹19.1 to 21.1 lakh | ₹20.1 lakh |
Engineering and construction is listed at ₹9.3 lakh a year without a sample size. Treat the management consulting row with care: the page does not say what work those 170 people do, and a "robotics engineer" in a consulting firm may be doing something very different from programming a welding cell. For most engineers who want to work with industrial robots, the auto components, machinery and industrial automation rows are the realistic ones.
Which jobs are called "robotics engineer" in India?
The title covers at least three different jobs, and they pay differently.
1. Industrial robot programming and integration. You program and commission robot cells (welding, painting, palletising, machine tending, assembly) for automotive, auto components, white goods and general manufacturing, usually at a system integrator or an end user. The tools are the brands' own languages: FANUC TP on the teach pendant, ABB RAPID, KUKA KRL and Yaskawa INFORM. A lot of programming now happens offline first; ABB describes RobotStudio as an offline programming and simulation platform built on its virtual controller. Expect site work, travel and close work with the PLC that runs the cell.
2. Robotics software. You write C++ and Python on ROS 2 for mobile robots, warehouse systems, drones or agricultural robots: navigation, perception, motion planning. AmbitionBox's Robotics Software Engineer page shows an average of ₹7 lakh a year (about ₹58,300 a month), with 1 to 3 years at ₹6.1 to 6.8 lakh, but it is based on only 20 salaries, so treat it as a hint, not a benchmark.
3. R&D and product engineering. You design the robot itself: mechanics, drives, embedded control and testing, in research labs and robot product companies. AmbitionBox has no separate page for this work, so we have no number to give.
There are also robot technicians on maintenance teams. AmbitionBox's Robot Technician page averages ₹3.3 lakh a year but rests on just 13 salaries, too few to rely on.
What about "AI robotics engineer"? We could not find a separate AmbitionBox page for that title. The closest work is robotics software (perception, learning-based control). On the Robotics Engineer page, AmbitionBox lists Python, machine learning, PLC and computer vision among the top skills, which shows how mixed the title already is.
Robotics engineer vs related roles: salary compared
Role (AmbitionBox, read 11 Oct 2026) | Salaries reported | Average per year | Per month (gross) | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Robotics Engineer | 2.3k | ₹5.5 lakh | ₹45,900 | Mix of industrial and software jobs |
Robot Programmer | 452 | ₹4.4 lakh | ₹36,600 | Industries listed: machinery, auto components |
Robotics Software Engineer | 20 | ₹7 lakh | ₹58,300 | Very small sample |
PLC Programmer | 2.5k | ₹4.5 lakh | ₹37,900 | Has a 0 to 1 year band |
Automation Engineer | 21.2k | ₹7.1 lakh | ₹59,200 | Includes software test automation |
Monthly figures in this table are the ones AmbitionBox itself states. The Automation Engineer page needs a warning: its top-paying employers are banks and software firms, so it mixes software test automation with industrial automation. The Robot Programmer page climbs from ₹3.3 lakh (1 to 3 years) to ₹5.3 lakh (6 to 9 years), a flatter curve than robotics engineer. For a wider view of plant-floor pay, see our industrial automation salary guide.

What moves a robotics engineer's pay?
The data shows three levers: experience (the jump after six years), city (Hyderabad and Bengaluru above Pune) and industry (industrial automation above auto components). Within one company and one city, these are the skills worth building in industrial robotics:
- Commissioning a whole cell, not just a robot. Knowing how the PLC tells the robot which job to run, when it may start and how the safety circuit stops it.
- More than one brand. Plants often run robots from more than one maker, and an engineer who is productive on two brands is easier to send to site.
- Offline programming and simulation. Building and proving a cell in ROBOGUIDE, RobotStudio or RoboDK before the hardware arrives.
- Vision and process knowledge. Camera-guided picking, weld parameters, dispensing or palletising patterns.
- For the software lane: C++, ROS 2 and real hardware. A simulation demo is a start; a robot you have actually debugged is what interviewers ask about.
One snapshot from the same AmbitionBox page: its job board listed 246 openings tagged FANUC and 110 tagged robot programming, against 27 for Yaskawa, 19 for KUKA and 10 for Robot Operating System (11 October 2026). That is one job board on one day, not a market survey, but on that board industrial robot skills appear far more often than ROS.
Is demand for robotics engineers growing in India?
Robot installations are. The International Federation of Robotics, in its press release of 24 September 2026, reports that India installed almost 10,500 industrial robots in 2025, up 15%, placing it sixth worldwide behind Germany, and that India's annual installations grew by 27% a year on average between 2020 and 2025. Every one of those robots needs someone to program, integrate and maintain it. Our World Robotics 2026 and India post breaks the report down.
How can a fresher get a better first robotics salary?
- Pick a lane. Industrial robot programming and robotics software need different skills; trying both at once dilutes your profile.
- For industrial robots, learn one brand properly in simulation. Start with the free FANUC Robot Programming with the Teach Pendant and ROBOGUIDE course or the ABB RobotStudio and RAPID course, then add a second brand: KUKA or Universal Robots PolyScope. Our FANUC beginners' guide and robot programming languages compared explain where to begin.
- Learn offline programming. The free RoboDK Offline Programming and Simulation course shows how a cell is built and checked before site.
- Learn the PLC side of the cell. Handshake signals, job selection, interlocks and safety are what make you useful on day one at an integrator.
- For software, go deep on ROS 2. The free ROS 2 Robot Programming with Python course is a starting point; add C++ and a real robot when you can.
- Show your work. A short video of a simulated cell with its cycle time, or a ROS 2 robot navigating a map, says more than a list of course names.
- Use the monthly numbers when you negotiate. Know the band for your city and industry before the HR round.

Our free robot programming courses with certificate post lists all of them in one place.
How to read these salary numbers
AmbitionBox figures are self-reported by employees, so a single title can cover very different work. Every monthly figure in this article is gross (cost to company divided by 12, or AmbitionBox's own monthly figure); your in-hand pay will be lower after PF, professional tax and income tax. Ranges move as new salaries are added, which is why we give the read date, 11 October 2026, and the sample size wherever AmbitionBox shows one.
