Free AI Courses With Certificate in India (2026)

The short answer
The best-known free AI course with a certificate in India is the government's YUVA AI for ALL, a 4.5-hour self-paced awareness course with a Government of India certificate. It teaches what AI is, not how to build it. For engineers who want real skills, EDWartens runs free courses in Python for AI, machine learning, generative AI, prompt engineering, computer vision, AI for industrial automation and predictive maintenance: ₹0 to learn, with an optional EDWartens Certificate of Completion (₹459 or ₹559 in India). For classroom training with projects, there is the AIP.
Three kinds of "free AI certificate"
Before choosing, be clear about what each certificate proves:
- Awareness certificates prove you understand what AI is and how to use it responsibly. Useful for anyone; not evidence of technical skill.
- Skills course certificates prove you completed a structured course and passed an assessment. They are much stronger when you can show the project you built.
- Job-level proof is work: a model you trained on real data, a tool that someone used, an internship or a classroom programme with real projects.
A good path climbs all three. That is the ladder below.
Rung 1: YUVA AI for ALL (government, free)
According to All India Radio News (18 Nov 2025), the Ministry of Electronics and IT launched YUVA AI for ALL under the IndiaAI Mission as a free, self-paced, 4.5-hour course in six short modules, available on FutureSkills Prime, iGOT Karmayogi and several ed-tech portals, with an official Government of India certificate. The stated aim is to give one crore citizens foundational AI skills. Business Today and Careers360 also covered the launch.
Take it if you have never studied AI. It is short and free. Do not expect it to make you employable in an AI role on its own: it is an introduction, and recruiters for technical roles will look for what comes next.
Rung 2: free EDWartens AI courses
Our AI courses are written for engineers, with examples from plants, meters, motors and datasheets rather than movie recommendations. How they work:
- Free to learn with an account: video lessons by independent YouTube creators (credited on each course page), written notes, practice tasks and a final assessment of 15 questions (60% to pass, three attempts).
- The optional EDWartens Certificate of Completion has a public verification code. It is an EDWartens certificate, not a government, university or vendor qualification.

| Course | What you can do at the end | Level | Study time | Certificate (India, optional) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI Essentials for Work | Write good prompts, check AI answers for invented facts, keep confidential data out of public tools | Beginner, no technical background | About 6 hours | ₹459 |
| Python for AI and Engineering Data | Run Python in Colab, convert 4-20 mA readings, clean a data-logger CSV with Pandas, plot load data | Absolute beginner | About 18 hours | ₹459 |
| Machine Learning with Python | Fit and explain a regression, avoid leakage, read a confusion matrix, train and serve a motor-fault classifier | Beginner in ML, needs basic Python | Self-paced | ₹459 |
| Generative AI and LLM Foundations | Explain why LLMs hallucinate, call a free model from Python, run one locally, build a datasheet assistant | Beginner | About 16 hours | ₹459 |
| Prompt Engineering for Engineers | Get JSON with a schema, make calculations checkable, generate report sections without invented facts | Beginner | Self-paced | ₹459 |
| Computer Vision with OpenCV | Measure parts from pixels, detect by colour and threshold, count parts crossing a line | Beginner in vision, needs basic Python | About 19 hours | ₹459 |
| AI for Industrial Automation | Match a plant problem to an AI use case, get data via OPC UA and MQTT, write an AI readiness audit | Intermediate | About 12 hours | ₹559 |
| Predictive Maintenance with ML | Build condition indicators, an anomaly detector and a fault classifier, estimate remaining useful life | Intermediate, needs the ML course | About 16 hours | ₹559 |
Nothing has to be installed for most of them: the Python, ML, computer vision and predictive maintenance courses run in Google Colab, which is free in the browser. The generative AI course uses a free OpenRouter key and, optionally, Ollama on your own laptop. There is also Deep Learning with TensorFlow once you have finished machine learning.
A 12-week path for an engineering student

At about 8 hours a week, alongside college or a job:
- Week 1: YUVA AI for ALL and AI Essentials for Work. Learn what AI is and how to use assistants safely.
- Weeks 2 to 4: Python for AI and Engineering Data. Do every practice task; this is the foundation for everything else.
- Weeks 5 to 7: Machine Learning with Python. Train the motor-fault classifier and keep the notebook.
- Weeks 8 to 9: Generative AI and LLM Foundations, with Prompt Engineering for Engineers alongside.
- Week 10: AI for Industrial Automation, to learn where AI sits next to a PLC and what it must never take over.
- Weeks 11 to 12: Predictive Maintenance with Machine Learning, or Computer Vision with OpenCV if inspection interests you more. Finish its project.
The free Learning Plan Builder turns your goal and weekly hours into a week-by-week plan from the free courses, if 8 hours a week is not realistic for you.
Is a free AI certificate worth putting on your resume?
Yes, if you list it honestly and it sits next to evidence. Before you add one, check:
- Can you name what you built? "Trained a motor-fault classifier on vibration features, recall 0.9 on the test motors" beats the certificate line.
- Is the project public? A Colab notebook or GitHub repository a recruiter can open.
- Can you explain it in an interview? Train/test split, why that metric, what would break in a real plant.
- Is it named correctly? "EDWartens Certificate of Completion, Machine Learning with Python", with its verification code. Never call it a government or vendor certification.
- Does it match the job? An industrial AI or predictive-maintenance course is relevant to a plant data role; it is not proof you can do frontier AI research.
Rung 3: classroom with projects
Free courses teach skills. Getting hired usually needs more: supervised projects on real data, feedback from someone who has shipped models, and accountability to finish. The AIP (Artificial Intelligence Program) is our classroom programme in Bangalore covering Python, data handling, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, generative AI and industrial AI, with project work such as production-line quality inspection and predictive maintenance. If you want to test your commitment first, finish two or three free courses on the ladder above. If you are an automation engineer who wants AI on top of PLC skills, the Automation Engineer Program is the other route.
What free AI courses cannot give you
- Real plant data. Public datasets are cleaner than a historian export. Our anomaly detection on PLC data walkthrough shows what real data looks like.
- Deployment experience. Running a model reliably on an edge box for months is a different skill from training it once.
- A mentor. Somebody to tell you that your 99% accuracy is data leakage.
Plan for these; do not pretend a certificate covers them.
Learn it free
Start at Python for AI and Engineering Data if you can't code yet, or Machine Learning with Python if you can. For automation engineers, AI for Industrial Automation is the most directly useful. All are listed at /free-courses.
