PLC Jobs for Freshers in India: Where to Find Them in 2026

The short answer

PLC jobs for freshers exist in real numbers: on 5 October 2026, Naukri showed 437 PLC programmer openings open to 0 years of experience, 491 PLC SCADA openings and 550 commissioning engineer openings, with Bangalore and Pune listing the most. Indeed India showed 200 PLC fresher vacancies the same day. Most fresher offers sit between ₹2 and ₹3.5 LPA, about ₹15,000 to ₹28,000 a month, and AmbitionBox puts the 0 to 1 year average for PLC programmers at ₹2.6 to 2.9 LPA. Freshers are hired mainly by system integrators, panel builders and machine builders, under titles like "PLC programmer trainee", "commissioning engineer trainee" and "graduate engineer trainee". The candidates who get hired can show hands-on work in an interview, not just a certificate.

This guide covers what to search, who hires, what pay to expect, what interviews test, a 30-day plan, the scams to avoid, and the Bangalore picture.

How many PLC jobs for freshers are actually open

I counted listings on 5 October 2026. Job board counts are noisy, so read the notes under the table before you trust any single number.

Notes that matter:

  • Naukri's "0 years" filter includes any job whose range starts at zero, such as "0 to 5 years". Many of those prefer one or two years in practice.
  • Keyword matches are loose. A search for "PLC" also returns software QA "automation" jobs and companies with "plc" in their legal name. Expect a quarter or more of results to be irrelevant.
  • LinkedIn showed "1,000+" PLC programmer jobs in India, which is a capped display, not a count.
  • The same job is often posted by the company and by two consultants, so the true number of employers is smaller.

Even after discounting, several hundred genuine fresher-eligible PLC roles are open at any time across India. That is enough to get hired if you search well, and not so many that you can be careless.

Most freshers search only "PLC programmer" and miss half the market. Search all of these:

Job titleWhat you actually doTypical employer
PLC programmer trainee / junior PLC programmerWrite and modify ladder logic, test on a bench, assist on siteSystem integrators
Commissioning engineer traineeI/O checks, loop tests, start-up at customer sites, lots of travelIntegrators, OEMs
Graduate engineer trainee (automation)Rotations in design, programming and site workLarger OEMs, MNCs

Service engineer / field service engineerBreakdown visits, troubleshooting installed machinesOEM service teams
Automation engineer (fresher)Mix of programming, HMI and site supportIntegrators, plants
Maintenance engineer (electrical)Keep plant machines running, modify PLC logicEnd-user plants

Also search "Siemens PLC fresher", "TIA Portal fresher" and "SCADA trainee". Use Naukri, Indeed, LinkedIn and Internshala together, because small integrators often post on only one.

Where freshers actually get hired

  1. System integrators. Small and mid-sized firms that build automation for factories. They hire the most freshers, pay the least, and teach the most. Expect site travel.
  2. Panel builders. You start in wiring and testing, then move into programming. A good entry if your interview programming is still weak.
  3. Machine builders (OEMs). Packaging, special-purpose machines, conveyors. You learn one platform deeply and travel for installations.
  4. OEM service teams. Field service roles for drive, robot and machine makers. Good troubleshooting training.
  5. End-user plants. Automotive, pharma and food plants hire maintenance trainees and graduate apprentices. Pay is steadier, programming exposure is lower.

Government apprenticeships are a legitimate paid route too. Under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme, the minimum stipend for a graduate engineering apprentice was revised to ₹12,300 a month and for a diploma apprentice to ₹10,900, with half reimbursed by the government (summary of the 2025 amendment). Check the current rate on the NATS portal before applying.

Sources: AmbitionBox PLC programmer salaries, Indeed India and Internshala PLC fresher jobs, all checked in October 2026.

The honest summary: at a small integrator, ₹12,000 to ₹20,000 a month is common for the first year. Advertised ranges like "₹2.25 to 6 LPA" on Naukri usually mean freshers are offered the bottom of that range. Offers of ₹3.5 LPA and above go to candidates who can program, wire and troubleshoot in the interview, or to graduate trainee schemes at larger companies. Pay rises fastest after two years of site commissioning, when AmbitionBox shows PLC programmers at ₹3.0 to 3.3 LPA for 1 to 3 years and ₹4.3 to 4.7 LPA for 3 to 6 years.

What employers test in interviews

Fresher PLC interviews are practical. Expect most of these:

  • Basics, asked properly. Scan cycle, NO vs NC contacts, latching, timers and counters, sinking vs sourcing, analog 4 to 20 mA scaling.
  • A live program. Write ladder for a motor start-stop with interlock, a star-delta starter, or a tank level control. Many firms hand you a laptop with TIA Portal or a simulator.
  • Drawing reading. Trace a circuit on an electrical drawing and say where a fault could be.
  • Fault finding. "The motor does not start. What do you check first?" Order and safety matter more than speed.
  • Site attitude. Small firms ask how you would handle a customer under pressure, and whether you can travel. Reported interview questions on AmbitionBox include exactly this, alongside interlocking and scan time questions at larger firms.

Prepare with PLC SCADA interview questions with answers, and bring one small project you built and can explain line by line.

A 30-day job search plan

Days 1 to 5: get your materials right.
Write a one-page resume that lists hands-on work first: PLC brands used, programs written, panels wired, any project with I/O count. Set up alerts on Naukri, Indeed, LinkedIn and Internshala for every title in the table above, filtered to your city and to 0 to 1 year.

Days 6 to 12: build one proof project.
Build a small project in TIA Portal with PLCSIM or a simulator: a conveyor sort, a tank fill, or a traffic light with an HMI screen. Record a two-minute screen video explaining it. This single item answers "what can you do?" better than any certificate.

Days 13 to 20: apply widely and directly.
Apply to 5 to 10 relevant jobs a day. Then go past the boards: list integrators and panel builders in your city from Google Maps and industry directories, and email or visit with your resume and video link. Small firms often hire without posting.

Days 21 to 27: interview and follow up.
Practise the interview topics above out loud. After every interview, send a short thank-you note and ask what to improve. Two days later, follow up once.

Days 28 to 30: review.
If you are getting interviews but no offers, your practical skills are the gap. If you are getting no interviews, your resume or targeting is. Fix one and repeat the cycle.

Red flags: scams and training traps

  • Paying to get a job. Naukri's own fraud advice is plain: genuine recruiters do not charge for interviews or offers. Registration fees, "refundable" deposits, laptop or uniform charges are all scams.
  • Unpaid "training" that never ends. A company that keeps you unpaid for months, then extends it, is using free labour. Ask for the training length, stipend and confirmation date in writing.
  • Bond with a high penalty and low pay. Some bonds are normal. A two- or three-year bond with a large penalty on a ₹10,000 stipend is not a fair trade. Read it before signing.
  • Originals held back. Do not hand over original certificates. Copies are enough.
  • Course fee disguised as a job offer. If the "offer" requires you to buy a course first, it is a sales pitch. If you choose a training programme with a job promise, check what the written contract says, as covered in what a job guarantee contract should say.

PLC jobs for freshers in Bangalore

Bangalore had 85 Naukri PLC openings marked 0 years on 5 October 2026, the highest of any city in that search, with Pune second. Where the work clusters:

  • Peenya. One of the largest industrial estates in South India. Many small integrators, panel builders and machine shops; a good place to walk in with a resume.
  • Electronic City and Bommasandra. Electronics manufacturing, special-purpose machine builders and automation firms along Hosur Road. Indeed listed a PLC programmer role in Bommasandra at ₹4 to 6 LPA in October 2026, though that one wanted some experience.
  • Hosur Road towards Hosur. Automotive and component plants across the state border; Indeed ranks Hosur among the higher-paying locations for PLC programmers.
  • Whitefield. MNC engineering centres and offices, more design and engineering roles than shop-floor ones.

The longer breakdown is in Bangalore's industrial corridors.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Are there enough PLC jobs for freshers in India?
A: Yes. On 5 October 2026 Naukri listed 437 PLC programmer openings open to freshers and Indeed listed 200 PLC fresher vacancies. Some are duplicates or mislabelled, but several hundred genuine roles are open at any time.

Q: What is the salary for PLC jobs for freshers?
A: Usually ₹2 to 3.5 LPA. AmbitionBox shows ₹2.6 to 2.9 LPA for PLC programmers with 0 to 1 year, and small integrators often pay ₹12,000 to ₹20,000 a month in the first year.

Q: Which city has the most PLC programmer jobs for freshers?
A: Bangalore and Pune lead. Naukri showed 85 fresher-eligible PLC openings in Bangalore and 62 PLC programmer openings in Pune on 5 October 2026.

Q: Do I need a degree to get a PLC job as a fresher?
A: Not always. Diploma and ITI holders are hired for panel testing, service and commissioning trainee roles. Graduate engineer trainee schemes at larger firms usually want a BE or BTech.

Q: Is it normal to pay a company for a PLC job?
A: No. Genuine employers do not charge for interviews, joining or documents. Any request for a fee or deposit before joining is a red flag.

Q: What should I learn before applying for PLC SCADA jobs as a fresher?
A: Ladder logic in one major platform (Siemens TIA Portal is the most requested), basic HMI screens, reading electrical drawings, and how to find a fault. One working project you can demonstrate matters more than many certificates.

Next step

Start with the free Siemens TIA Portal course and control panel design and testing; both cost nothing to learn, and a certificate is optional after you pass.
