Government PLC Training Institutes in India, Fees 2026

The short answer
A government PLC training institute in India is usually one of three things: a National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) under the Directorate General of Training, an MSME tool room or technology centre such as CTTC Bhubaneswar, or a state body such as GTTC or KGTTI in Karnataka. They are cheap. NSTI Bangalore and NSTI Chennai charge private candidates ₹1,000 per week for their short PLC courses (2026-27 calendars), CTTC Bhubaneswar charges ₹8,000 for a one-month PLC course, and NSIC's Technical Services Centre in Chennai lists a one-month "Certified PLC Programmer" course at ₹8,000 plus GST. The catch is length and depth: most of these courses run one week to two months, cover mainly Siemens, and do not include placement support. Treat them as a low-cost, genuine first exposure to real hardware, not as a route to a job on their own.
All fees below were read from the institutes' own published calendars on 5 October 2026. Government fees change every training year, so confirm with the institute before you travel.
Which government institutes actually teach PLC
| Institute | Run by | PLC course (as published) | Duration | Fee for a private candidate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NSTI Bangalore, Yeshwanthpur | DGT, Ministry of Skill Development | Siemens S7-1200/1500 PLC Programming and HMI Integration with DCS | 1 week | ₹1,000 per week plus ₹100 registration |
| NSTI Chennai, Guindy | DGT, Ministry of Skill Development | PLC Programming using Siemens S7-1200 with HMI and SCADA | 2 weeks | ₹1,000 per week plus ₹100 registration |
| NSIC Technical Services Centre, Guindy, Chennai | NSIC, a Government of India enterprise | Certified PLC Programmer (any 2 PLCs with HMI) | 1 month | ₹8,000 plus GST |
| NSIC Technical Services Centre, Chennai | NSIC | PLC with Industrial Application | 2 months | ₹4,000 plus GST |
| CTTC Bhubaneswar | Ministry of MSME society | PLC; SCADA; Process Control and Automation | 1 month each | ₹8,000 each plus ₹1,000 registration |

NSTIs under the Advanced Vocational Training Scheme
NSTIs were set up to train ITI instructors and industry supervisors. Their short courses fall under the Advanced Vocational Training Scheme (AVTS), and they are open to private candidates as well as to people sponsored by employers. The fee depends on who pays: in the 2026-27 calendars, candidates sponsored by medium and large industries pay ₹2,000 per week, people nominated by government departments such as Railways pay ₹1,250, and private candidates and students sponsored by colleges pay ₹1,000.
The courses are short. NSTI Chennai lists a one-week Siemens S7-400/1200/1500 course, a two-week S7-1200 course with HMI and SCADA, a two-week course on Siemens PLCs with electric drives, and a one-week electro-pneumatics course with PLC. The content is sound (TIA Portal, digital and analog I/O, timers, counters, a bottle-filling project), but two weeks of 9 am to 5:30 pm is about 70 hours. That is enough to learn the tool, not enough to troubleshoot a running machine on your own.
MSME tool rooms and NSIC centres
The Ministry of MSME's tool rooms and technology centres run month-long courses that start every month. CTTC Bhubaneswar's 2025-26 programme lists PLC, SCADA, Mechatronics and Process Control and Automation at ₹8,000 each for diploma or degree holders in electrical or electronics, with classes starting on the first working day of every month. It also runs long courses: Sr. Technician, Machine Maintenance and Automation (6 months, ₹34,000), Process Designer, Automation (6 months, ₹36,000, for degree holders) and a one-year Post Diploma in Industrial Automation and Robotics (₹54,000). Long courses add a ₹500 assessment fee and ₹300 of other fees.
CITD Hyderabad, another MSME institute, also runs PLC and industrial automation programmes. Its course PDFs would not load when we checked on 5 October 2026, so we have not quoted a fee. Check citdindia.org or call them.
NIELIT, PMKVY and ITI routes
NIELIT centres (Calicut, Aurangabad and Haridwar among them) publish PLC and SCADA courses, some online. Under PMKVY 4.0, training, assessment and certification are free to the candidate because, as NSDC states, "all training expenses are borne by the scheme". The difficulty is finding a PMKVY batch that actually teaches PLCs near you; search the Skill India Digital Hub and ask the centre which hardware they own before you enrol. If you are in an ITI, ask your principal about AVTS courses: NSTI Hyderabad, for example, states no training fee for ongoing ITI trainees.
NTTF is not a government institute
NTTF (Nettur Technical Training Foundation) often appears in searches for government training. It is a private not-for-profit foundation with more than 65 years of history, not a government body. It runs a Post Diploma in Industrial Automation at its Electronic City centre and a diploma in Mechatronics and Smart Factory at Peenya, and it publishes fees in its prospectus.
Government PLC training institutes in Bangalore
If you are in Bangalore, you have four public options to look at.
NSTI Bangalore (Outer Ring Road, off Tumkur Road, near Goraguntepalya metro). The remaining 2026-27 dates for the one-week Siemens S7-1200/1500 PLC and HMI course are 7 to 11 December 2026, 1 to 5 February 2027 and 15 to 19 March 2027. There is also a one-week Industrial Automation with Robotic Control course (12 to 16 October 2026 and 1 to 5 March 2027) and an Electro-Pneumatic with PLC course (1 to 5 February 2027). Entry needs a diploma, BE or NTC/NAC in a relevant trade. The application must reach the institute at least four weeks before the course, and the brochure says preference goes to candidates from industries, government and institutions. Budget ₹1,110 for one week (₹1,000 tuition, ₹100 registration, ₹10 gymkhana in cash).
KGTTI, Bannerghatta Road. The Karnataka German Technical Training Institute is run by KGMSDC, a society promoted by the Government of Karnataka under the Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood department. It lists Industrial Automation Technician (314 hours over 2.5 months, for diploma and ITI) and Industrial Automation Design (380 hours over 3 months, for BE, diploma and ITI) and describes itself as a FESTO authorised training centre. Fees are not on its course page, so call before visiting.
GTTC. The Government Tool Room and Training Centre lists a Siemens Centre of Excellence in Bangalore and short-term competency courses on its website, but no readable fee page when we checked. Visit or phone the centre.
NTTF Electronic City is private, as explained above.

Government PLC training institutes in Chennai, with fees
Chennai has the most transparent fee structure we found. Two government institutes sit within a few kilometres of each other in Guindy.
| Chennai course | Institute | Length | Published fee | Likely total for a private candidate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PLC Programming, Siemens S7-400/1200/1500 | NSTI Chennai | 1 week | ₹1,000 per week, ₹100 registration | about ₹1,100 |
| S7-1200 with HMI and SCADA | NSTI Chennai | 2 weeks | ₹1,000 per week, ₹100 registration | about ₹2,100, plus ₹100 a day if you use the hostel |
| PLC with Industrial Application | NSIC Technical Services Centre | 2 months | ₹4,000 | ₹4,720 with 18% GST |
| Certified PLC Programmer, 2 PLCs with HMI | NSIC Technical Services Centre | 1 month | ₹8,000 | ₹9,440 with 18% GST |
NSTI Chennai takes its fee by crossed demand draft in favour of "PAO, MSDE - CHENNAI" and has an online registration form. NSIC courses need a degree or diploma in ECE, EEE or EIE and start in the first week of every month. If you are from Tamil Nadu and want a longer classroom route, our Tamil Nadu page explains how candidates from there train in Bangalore.
How to find a government PLC training institute near you
- Open the DGT website and list the NSTIs in your state; each NSTI publishes an AVTS brochure every April to July.
- Search the institute's brochure for "PLC", "automation", "mechatronics" or "pneumatics". Note the course code and dates.
- Check the eligibility line. Most need ITI, diploma or degree in a relevant branch.
- Check the fee category that applies to you (private, college-sponsored or industry-sponsored).
- Apply early. NSTI Bangalore wants applications four weeks ahead.
- For month-long courses, check the nearest MSME tool room or technology centre and the NSIC Technical Services Centre.
- Before paying, ask how many trainees share one PLC trainer kit.

Government vs private vs free online: an honest comparison
| Factor | Government short course | Government long course | Private classroom institute | Free online course |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | ₹1,000 to ₹9,440 | ₹34,000 to ₹54,000 | Usually not published; get a written quote | ₹0 to learn; optional certificate ₹459 to ₹959 |
| Length | 1 week to 2 months | 6 months to 1 year | 1 to 12 months | Self-paced |
| Hardware | Real Siemens kits, shared | Labs, shared | Varies widely; inspect it | Simulators (PLCSIM, Factory I/O) |
| Brands | Mostly Siemens | 1 to 3 | 1 to 20 | Many, one course each |
| Placement help | None for short courses | Varies; ask | Varies; ask for proof | None |
What this means in practice:
- Government short courses are the best value per rupee for hands-on time. ₹1,000 for a week on a real S7-1200 is hard to beat. But one week makes you familiar, not employable.
- Seats are not guaranteed for private candidates. Preference goes to sponsored candidates, and batches are cancelled or rescheduled without notice. Read the brochure's fine print.
- Brand coverage is narrow. Plants in India run Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Schneider and Delta. Most government courses teach only Siemens.
- Placement is your job. A government certificate is respected, but nobody will send your CV to a system integrator for you.
- Private institutes vary more than government ones. Some are excellent and some are slideshows. Use our checklist for choosing a PLC institute and ask for fees, hours on hardware and placement records in writing.
A sensible order for most freshers: learn the basics free online, take a one-week NSTI course to touch real hardware, and only then decide whether a longer paid programme is worth it. Our comparison of free PLC training options covers the free part in detail.
Where EDWartens fits
We are a private institute, so weigh this section accordingly. Our free online courses cost ₹0 to learn, including notes, practice tasks and the final assessment; the only paid item is an optional certificate after you pass (₹459, ₹559 or ₹959 including GST, depending on level). Siemens TIA Portal is a good starting point before an NSTI week, and Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 covers the brand government courses rarely teach.
For classroom training, the Automation Engineer Program in Electronic City runs 3 to 12 months in assessment-gated phases across 20 PLC brands plus SCADA, HMI and drives, with admission by aptitude test. Fees are agreed per candidate after counselling. It carries a written job guarantee with a full fee refund if you complete every phase and are not placed, conditions apply as per the placement policy. If you are comparing options in the city, our page on PLC training in Bangalore sets out what the programme includes.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Is there a free government PLC course in India?
A: Yes, in some cases. PMKVY 4.0 courses are free to the candidate, including assessment and certification, but few PMKVY centres teach PLCs with real hardware. NSTI Hyderabad states no training fee for ongoing ITI trainees on its AVTS courses. NPTEL's Industrial Automation and Control course from IIT Kharagpur is free to study, with an optional paid exam.
Q: What is the fee for a government PLC course in Chennai?
A: NSTI Chennai charges private candidates ₹1,000 per week plus ₹100 registration in its 2026-27 calendar, so its two-week S7-1200 with HMI and SCADA course costs about ₹2,100. NSIC's Technical Services Centre in Guindy lists PLC with Industrial Application at ₹4,000 and Certified PLC Programmer at ₹8,000, with GST extra.
Q: Which government institute in Bangalore teaches PLC?
A: NSTI Bangalore in Yeshwanthpur runs a one-week Siemens S7-1200/1500 PLC and HMI course, with remaining 2026-27 batches in December 2026, February 2027 and March 2027. KGTTI on Bannerghatta Road runs 2.5 to 3 month industrial automation courses. GTTC lists a Siemens Centre of Excellence in Bangalore.
Q: Can a fresher or final-year student join an NSTI short course?
A: Usually yes. NSTI Chennai's brochure accepts ITI, diploma and degree holders and pre-final and final-year diploma or degree students. NSTI Bangalore asks for a diploma, BE or NTC/NAC. Preference goes to sponsored candidates, so apply early.
Q: Will a government PLC certificate get me a job?
A: Not by itself. Employers value it as proof of real hardware exposure, but they hire on what you can show in an interview: wiring a sensor, writing a seal-in rung, reading a fault. Pair the certificate with projects and practice.
Q: Is NTTF a government institute?
A: No. NTTF is a private not-for-profit foundation. It runs industrial automation and mechatronics programmes in Bangalore, with fees published in its prospectus.
What to do next
Start with a free course so the NSTI week is spent on hardware, not on learning what a timer is: Siemens S7-1200 with TIA Portal is a good fit. If you want to talk through whether a government course, a free course or a longer classroom programme suits your background, book a counselling call through our contact page.
